Since Java is already deployed to all workstations (300+) articles on how to configure a custom install aren't real helpful at this time (unless we also address how to silently and effectively uninstall all previous versions first) But if I have to, I'll hit every workstation by hand just to make it stop prompting users for updates they A) Don't want/need B) Can't install anyhow and C) May break other apps. Ideally, I'd love a way to send the fix out via GPO or using our Kace appliance. No one has updated to the new version yet. Since the new version of Java breaks the app she's trying to access (and she doesn't have admin install permissions anyhow) she's stuck and unable to access the page.

Instead, whenever she visits a website that uses java, instead of rendering the page it just redirects the whole thing to the Java update download page. I have one user who's not getting the Java Update notification in the taskbar. I've read that most of the reg hacks don't work consistently.ĭisabling the auto-update from the control panel seems to be profile-based, so every user would need to do this (not an option even if it wasn't a time waste because users don't have access to the control panel) There are registry hacks, modified installers, service/startup config edits, and many other ways people have tried with limited success to get control of when/if they update their client Java versions.Īnd now I'm running into the same issues so many others have run into: There's a new version of Java out and it breaks certain web apps and I can't get it to stop prompting users to update. Getting Java updates managed seems to be a running joke among IT professionals.
